Important basic information about the wireless Access point

 In some big cities, due to different reasons, deploying the line is not convenient, such as the high cost of optical fiber, weak twisted pair long-distance signal, river obstacles, the good-looking of the city, and so on. People want to connect to the network easily and quickly. Therefore, the establishment of wireless access point network is needed.

 Wireless AP is the access point for mobile phone, and computer users to access the wired network, which is mainly used for broadband homes, inside buildings, and inside the park, with a typical distance of dozens of meters to several hundred meters. The working principle of wireless AP is to transmit the network signal through the twisted-pair wire, and through the compilation of AP products, the electrical signal is converted into a radio signal and sent out, forming the coverage of the wireless network.


The following is some basic but important knowledge about wireless access points to share,  and then you will know how to install and use the wireless access points.


1. AP Wi-Fi coverage area


(1) Indoor area: the maximum allowable indoor coverage distance is 35-100 meters;

(2) Outdoor area: the maximum outdoor allowable distance is 100-400 meters.

And the most important is the Wi-Fi signal can be affected by environments such as high buildings, walls, trees, etc., so the Wi-Fi coverage also depends on the environment.

2、AP coverage.

The loss during transmission for 2.4G electromagnetic waves when going through various building materials is as follows

(1) Cement wall (15-25 cm): loss  10-12dB;

(2) Wood wall (5-10 cm): loss  5-6dB;

(3) Glass window (3-5 cm): loss 5-7dB.


3、 The impact of various building materials on wireless signals


(1) When AP is separated by a cement wall, the transmission coverage distance of AP is about <5 m effective distance.

(2) When the AP is separated by a wooden wall, the transmission distance of the AP is about <15 meters of effective distance.

(3) When the AP is separated by a glass wall in the terminal, the transmission distance of the AP is about <15 meters of effective distance.


4、 AP quantity needed for different environments


(1) For an ordinary open space of less than 150 square meters, such as the hotel public rest area, small bars, cafés, conference rooms, restaurants, and other areas, it is expected that when the number of users does not exceed 30, an AP can be placed in each place to meet the needs.

(2) When the space is large, multiple AP will be installed to meet the coverage demand. When the capacity demand is large, that is, there are too many users in the coverage area of the AP, and multiple AP will be placed in the same space to increase the capacity.
